Oneplus is planning to make a comeback to the affordable market segment CEO Pete Lau revealed.
OnePlus could make things tougher for Xiaomi that gained huge success for selling low margin mobile devices. “We can look at it as having a more affordable product offering” Lau said in the interview with Fast company.” But all products that still remain up to the OnePlus standard, and through this enabling more people to have access to OnePlus products.”
There could be my raid reasons as to why OnePlus needs to get back to selling value for money devices. The company that once touted itself proudly as the “flagship killer” has been known to increase the prices of its phones with every new iteration, starting with the ₹ 21,999 ($300) priced OnePlus 8 series of smartphones that start at ₹ 41,999 ($699), the prices of the phones have increased exponentially since the OnePlus 6T series. This could have led to OnePlus losing a significant chunk of early adopters who still expect flagship grade performance but without paying as high a price as the current crop of OnePlus phones.
We’ll know more about the affordable OnePlus phone as we near the launch which is expected to be held in India first.
